I started out with a super fun hike and Jinkies breakfast with MelleMusic and then hit the Santa Monica Farmers' Market for some fresh veggies and fruit. If you go next week, look for the guy who sells the different variety of melons, they are delicious! And the peaches guy. You'll know the peaches guy because they have a mad crazy line for the peaches...
Anyway, we were leaving and as we were pulling out of the parking garage, we were inches before the car leaving in the next lane. He slams his breaks, throws up his arms and shouts, "Go! Already! Geez!" I was thinking, "WTF?" so I yell, "Don't be so angry! Chill out!" and then we pull out. It was only 10:30 am and he was already super angry. Seriously, that's just lame! Ok, I should probably shut up too because that recent being followed on the freeway crap (ok, I don't know if I posted that..that's a whole other post). So, he's stuck behind us for a while before he makes a right to another street. I still have my window open and I'm feeling a little worried that he might be a super big a-hole. I'm sitting back, waiting for some thing...
he pulls up next to us...
What do you think is blasting from his car? Guess? Maybe some Limp Bizkit? other angry frat rock? right?
WRONG!
He was blasting COLDPLAY! COLDPLAY!!! Do you believe that?
Melle & I busted up laughing! Seriously, so angry and then Coldplay?!? And not new rockin' Coldplay. It was Sleepy Time Tea Coldplay! Hilarious!
Then I was waiting in a line for Supergrass tickets and some of the people were so pissy and judgmental. These two girls walked past and ok, one wanted to be Paris Hilton but seriously, whatever. Who the hell cares? But this girl totally says loud enough for them to hear, "Hello Sluts." And her friends just laugh along. I was like, "geez, really, you're like 40 and you're doing that shit." I mean, who knows what that girl's about. But seriously if you can rock those clothes, then go right ahead and do it. Then someone else was saying how no one in line has ever heard of Supergrass (more on them tomorrow). Gah! People are in their 30s maybe 40s and still thinking that crap. Get over it people! It's not THAT serious.
So seriously...it's the weekend. Let's all just chill out and not care about what other people are thinking or doing and just deal with our own crap. Deep breathe in. Deep breathe out. Repeat!
Today, I walked around downtown and went to MOCA. I did not realize that it was Thursday - Art Walk night so I went to see some exhibits.
I went to see the Marlene Dumas exhibit and I realized that I am a bit of a prude. There were a couple of pieces I liked like the series "Black Drawings" and her collages, like "3 Women and I" but most of the pieces were a little too dark for me. She has one piece called "Don't Talk To Strangers" that I really liked which was another collage which looked like she took pages from a guestbook and tore it up and took the interesting bits to make this work. However, back to the dark side, there were pieces that were based on the Abu Ghraib photos and some pieces that were pretty pornographic. Hence, my prude statement. I was not disturbed by them, I just did not care for them. Most of the pieces I liked were from the permanent collection. They have fabulous pieces like that giant Barbara Krueger "It's a Small World, But not if You Have To Clean It," which is appropriate for the time we are living in - brownouts, rolling blackouts, gas shortage, water shortage, etc. etc. etc.
However, there were moments where I just did not get what was going on. There was one piece that was basically Malevich's "Black Square" except bigger and not in the top corner of a room. I don't know. I did not get it. Then I went to Redcat to check out Haegue Yang's Asymmetric Quality. I did not understand this one either. It was a series of blinds, red lights, lights and fans. I read the interview with Yang but I still had no idea what was supposed to be happening or what I was supposed to be feeling. Then there was a series of loud LOUD drumming that started playing and I still did not get it! Maybe I'm not supposed to get it. I just have no clue!
Now, I'm home and freaking out about the movie, Twilight. You should check out Stephanie Meyer's series. It is hit and miss but that should not stop you from reading it. The kids LOVE it! Especially if you love vampires and werewolves, you'll probably like this series.
I like to drive with the windows down when it's nice outside. I'm not much for the air conditioning. Yesterday, happened to be one of those beautiful days in L.A. where it was sunny and breezy. We get to the top of the hill and I look out my window.
"Oh. look at those bees," I say smiling. Because you know, I have read about the plight of the honeybee and usually, I see that lone bee dead on the sidewalk and here they were buzzing around.
Then slowly...the realization hit me.
"OMG! There's like a babillion bees out here!!!!! AGHHHHHHHHHH"
"Crap! Close your windows!" I start freaking out because one tried to fly into the car as I was closing my window.
Tall Guy is all "what?" He's not very observant - he'll tell you that himself.
"Close your window! Close your window!!!!" (me freaking out!)
Because at this point, we hit a stop light and we were going to be there a while.
Taking it all in it probably would have been a really amazing scene in Planet Earth, but sitting in my car in the midst of hundred bees trying to figure out where to go next - Not so fun.
Anyway, that's my exciting tale for a Tuesday morning. Grades are in. Life is pretty good.
Have a good day everybody!
I just drank 4 cups of coffee and attempted to get ready for sleep but was sidetracked by my lovely Google Reader. Plus the amount of caffeine in my system is probably skyrocketing.
Anyway, here are some interesting things I read about tonight:
- A Man and his Guillotine - seriously, that is a lot of effort. Totally crazy. I am probably being insensitive but seriously, how did he even come up with that idea?
- Transportation Secretary Mary Peters is an idiot - How the woman can attempt to scapegoat bike paths and walking paths is completely bizarre. This is an interesting article from Salon.com and actually has pretty interesting statistics. If there were more bike paths in LA and better public transportation, i would totally walk or bike to work. How she can say bike paths do not count as transportation is completely beyond me. But I suppose if you want to squash a gas tax you have to find something to blame? unbelievable....
- Iraq War A Success - really? what is that guy smoking? I guess, it's good that some of our troops are coming home. But talk about putting a completely ridiculous spin on it. Success? Is anyone else completely insulted by this bs?
those things are about all I could take cracked out on caffeine...now, I'm just going to go to bed angry...
I had the most insane dream early this morning during my morning nap.
Anyway, here is a list of features because it was really long and vivid and surprising:
- passion fruit waffles (does anyone even make these? and would they even be good?)
- a gospel choir
- a 3-story house
- a Mexican lady who owned a daycare and all the kids
- a random Asian girl
- a fire escape ladder thing
- old swing records
- dancing to swing
- friends and co-workers - everyone I know was there
- a party
- a hunt for Miss C's apartment, that wasn't like her apartment that she lives in with K & M
- storytime
- giving thanks
- girls in costumes, riding bikes, and red string
- walking into the wrong house without knocking
- a beagle with big dog bark
- the 3-story house being neighbors with a police kennel (hence the beagle????)
- walking
and last but not least
- a kitty/butterfly - it was literally part kitten and part butterfly and colored blue, gold & black...it was so cute and weird.
I just finished the finale and my initial reaction is: what the hell was that?
First of all:
- I love that George Takei & Richard Roundtree were both in this episode
- I loved that Nikki kicked this crap out of that chick from Stick It (The Worst Movie in the World - except for Jeff Bridges, who was the only one I liked in the movie)
- Hurray for DL living ; even though that was one of the fastest gun shot recoveries ever - who knows, maybe Mohinder is not so bad after all (ok, I take that last part back)
- Hurray for Hiro saving Ando
- Mika's got a girlfriend & her name is Molly
- Nathan redeemed himself...maybe
That was a pretty cheese-lious finale. First of all, what a disappointing fight scene. DISAPPOINTING! I would have been happy if everyone went after Sylar and it was an all out triple team. Nikki, Peter & Hiro versus Sylar. THAT would have been so cool. But it was only a teaser. Sylar chokes Peter, Nikki hits Sylar with a parking meter, Hiro stabs Sylar, Peter nukes Sylar...Ok, he did not do that but he could have! Sylar could have even taken them with his Magneto-like powers. But alas no..it was kind of a dud. That ending should have been so much more exciting and it really kind of fell short of expectations. It started out pretty good and then nothing. But of course, I will be back to watch Volume 2: Generations. I admit, I was pretty happy with most of the episode except for the "fight." I guess, they did not have enough time to make it more exciting.
But there was so much saccharine lines that I just cringed.
- Molly with the "Officer Parkman, don't die. You're my hero!"
- Charles with the whole love, all you need is love line.
- Peter's whole monologue about death to Simone
I was so shocked that I could not even respond except to say, "You're joking right?"
Then one of them goes, "I haven't written in cursive since the 3rd grade." Later he asked, "How do you write an 'F'?"
All I could do was laugh because that is just sad people. Sad Sad Sad.
