seriously, what's up with the stupid hat?

I am not sure why i wanted to hear Suede (or London Suede) this morning but I did. I remember my friend, Christina, was really into them and she used to play them on her radio show.  I remember obsessing over the song "Beautiful Ones."  I probably made my neighbors sick of the band.  Recently, I was talking to Miss C about playing songs over and over again.  When I first went to college, I would play songs and albums over and over. I thought that was normal because in my house, my family always put things on repeat.  I did not realize that people would be annoyed. I also used to take a radio into the dorm showers because I always play music while I shower.  I grew up doing that and still do it and honestly, I thought that everyone did that.  But I learned a lot of things in college, 2 things being:

1. most people don't listen to music in the shower
2. most people do not obsess about a song or album and play it on repeat for days, weeks, months

I remember this one guy finally had to tell me that it was annoying and could I listen to something else. I was all, "oh. ok." But then I became super self-conscious and stopped all that.  Luckily, I moved out of the dorms and into some houses where I could surround myself with people, who either tolerated my musical habits or had the same kinds of habits. 

I spent a better part of this afternoon checking out the Top 20 videos from the P.I. on JocTV. I do not really know anything about the Pinoy music scene so I thought I would check out what was going on over in the P.I.  Most of the stuff was the sort of ballad music that I remember when I was a kid.  But there were a couple of interesting bands or just videos that I kind of thought were ok. 

I like the Sandwich video because (1) they are called Sandwich and it's a song about DVDs.  It's also the one that actually had the most production involved from the looks of the video.  There's another band called Mayonnaise, which I thought was weird but hey...sandwich, mayonnaise..whatever.

The Imago video for Taralets is just fun. It's pretty poppy and cute.  I want to go ride some go-carts now.

And I just kind of liked Rivermaya.  I don't know, I will have to check out more of their stuff. It was a pretty good song.

Unfortunately, nothing really popped out at me. A lot of bands were trying to be other bands, like Incubus or P.O.D. or something.  I know, I am a music snob and that bands are all influenced by other bands but when it is really really obvious I kind of just get turned off.

Anyway, this hunt for Filipino music started when I was reading this guy, Mat's, travel journal. He's in Singapore and he saw a band called Kjwan from the P.I. that's supposed to be rock/funk.  I thought I'd give it a listen and it just went off from there.  Anyway, if you know any Filipino bands I should check out, let me know.

During my walk, I started thinking about how I used to walk every where when I was a kid.  There were not too many places to go to because I lived out in the suburbs but we did have this amazing arcade called "Rey's Arcade"  and an  skate shop that we spent hours and hours in during the summer.

I was pretty much a tomboy because I was a little too young to hang out with the girls my sisters age and too old for the other girls in the neighborhood.  I am not athletic and I was pretty much awkward and clumsy but that never really stopped me from hanging out with my brothers and their friends.  Guys always seemed to be a lot more welcoming of me than the girls. 

I ended up becoming pretty obsessed with the Bones Brigade at the time.  We would watch all the BB videos over and over again at my neighbor's house. I did not have very good balance and after eating it a bunch of times and probably sustaining a number of concussions, I stayed away from the skateboard.  Though I still loved it.  I loved Tommy Guerrero and imagine my surprise when I discovered his music. I thought to myself, "Tommy Guerrero? From the Bones Brigade? No way!" 

I forgot that I really dig this video. I never really listened to Notorious B.I.G. but I do really like him. I should pick some Biggie when I go record shopping.  He's like a must-have in any good collection.

The Lovemakers are going to be in LA in August. I cannot wait. The last time I saw them, they played at the Troubadour. They will be at the Troubadour again. I am about to go see them in San Diego. They will be playing at the Casbah the day before. I used to go to the Casbah all the time! I love that bar/club.  It's small and there is a pretty cool patio area and also another room.  It's a great place to see a great band.

I was watching "Shake Your Ass" on their website and thought I'd look up some more videos on YouTube.  Is it strange that I get a lot of my tv clips and video watching done on YouTube or onlline?  I don't have reception on my tv so I feel a bit out of touch.  Luckily, a lot of my friends are super tech savvy and are always telling me about cool things online like Tiki Bar TV.  Anyway, enjoy your independence day if you can and listen to some Lovemakers to help you forget about some of the crap going on in the world....

I just finished watching "Scratch" and now I'm watching the Pharcyde Drop video.  This is one of my favorite songs and favorite videos by Spike Jonze.  This song just one of those tracks that always makes me want to get up and dance.  I love how the videos in reverse but forward.  Does that even make sense?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

When you are sick..it is sometimes good to dance it out.
