And yes, it belongs in all CAPS!
so, back at the library because it's sunday. I was supposed to run this morning but it was ice cold and pitch black at 6am so I stayed curled up in bed dreaming of baking and all the things I need to get done today.
I spent the morning watching "The Big Bang Theory" Season 1.
I love Sheldon! This show had me laughing so much and maybe it's a little sad that I can understand a lot of the nerdy references. But this show is so great and the characters are awesome and I love everyone in it.
Also, I continued my winter holiday baking extravaganza!!!! extravaganza!!!!! EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My house smells like chocolate cookies. Last night, I started making ginger cookies and I wanted to throw in some crystallized ginger candies in there but I had to drive all over the Valley to find crystallized ginger. Someone totally was thinking the same thing and bought it all up in every store within a 5 mile radius!!! Do you believe that??!??? ugh! But, after an hour of driving, I finally found some at the store closest to my studio! Double GAH!!! But they add a nice little ginger pop so I'm happy even though I totally wasted gas...oh well. So I finished that up this morning and then started what has to be my best cookie EVER!
I took this Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe from the Food Network and tweeked it a bit. I added toffee bits, more chocolate chips, and melted a cup of chocolate (I kind of had stuff lying around so I just threw them in the bowl). Let me tell you! YUM! My mouth is watering thinking about it. I need to make more because this recipe is a winner! I could eat a whole batch of them by myself. When I get home I'll post some pictures but they might not look as delicious as they taste. I need to send these up to Felicious and my new penpal.
Things that I should write more about:
Penpal Party - i got my first letter today! and sent out one last week! I love it :) Letters are so fun! I have to send my new penpal some stuff...
Family visiting days - my family was here...I miss them...
Annoying Patron - um. there is 1 woman who annoys the crap out of me every Sunday. I can't deal with her and it's like she's a cat and can sense it, You know, I have a mild cat allergy and cats know and they are always making a b-line towards me...this woman is the same way. She just needs to not come to my station at the reference desk. She got on my bad side and for some reason I'm not letting it go with her. Most of the time I just forget people but she was that awful. I think I kind of tick her off on purpose. I know, that's mean but I can't help it----she's evil!
Alright, that's all for now. Happy Sunday from the Reference Desk!!!
Good morning! Getting ready to run 9 miles with Miss K. Blades is off at her mom's so she's not joining us today. I would rather be curled up in bed because (1) it's still dark out (2) it's freezing out there and (3) I'm still sleepy!
So, in order to wake up, I thought I'd listen to this ridiculous Narwhal Song. I don't even know what cartoon it's for..all I know is it's cracking me up.
Another plus for this morning..the House passes a health reform bill!!!
All right..off to torture my body! Happy Sunday Folks!
Happy Sunday Folks!!! Ok, it's not that big a star sighting I guess, but I thought it was exciting. I loved Ogie in "The Waitress." His voice is just really distinct.

This morning, I decided to walk to work, which is like 3 miles away. I am still in my fat pants so I seriously need to get the working out in gear. So, walking to work is good.
I headed out at about 9am and then met Skinny Girl for breakfast at my local spot. I think, everyone forgot it was time to set your clocks forward today because everyone is running late. She called me at 9:30 laughing because her clocks' still read "8:30." But that's ok. I only knew it was time to change the clock because I happened to be listening to the radio last night on the way home from S.D. We still had a great breakfast pow-wow. And all I can say is that my life is really not that exciting. Not going into details, but seriously, my excitement is really in the small things, like the sunshine or some flowers or spotting Ogie at the Farmer's Market.
Yes, I saw Ogie (Eddie Jemison) at the Toluca Lake Farmer's Market today! YAY! He seems like a nice fellow. I was picking up some pears (Bosc & an Asian) and I heard him talking. No one really sounds like that do they? He was holding his kid and had his face turned away so I had to pretend I was looking at the fresh spinach so I could see if it was really him. I was so excited because I loved him in "The Waitress" even with his weird spontaneous poems. He was super cute with holding his kid and trying out the different oranges. And he was polite and pleasant to the lady at the stand. (Yup! These are the types of "stars" I get exciting about.)
I was going to start going to the Toluca Lake Farmer's Market but honestly, it's kind of the sad. There are about 8 stands there and one musician. They need to get the word out so that more people set up there. There are two stands for fruit (1 with pears & oranges and the other with berries), 1 vegetable stand, a tamale stand, a flower stand and a couple of stands for jewelry & clothing. The people are very nice and it was not over run which might be the appeal but I love seeing people out and about at the farmer's markets that's one of the big appeals of going. Aside from the state of it, I did get some fabulous fruit and a bag of brussel sprouts, which I talked at length with Felicious about how to cook. I am not a big brussel sprouts fan but I think I will give it a try.
That's it for now. I should start working instead of procrastinating.
Have a good Sunday everybody!
I just finished reading an article in the NYT's about Erykah Badu and her upcoming album. Check it out here.
I did not realize that it has been a while since she has released a full length album. I think, it was because I still saw here in things and still listen to her earlier records. She's amazing and I look forward to checking out her new sounds.
I love albums so you know I love this video. Enjoy!
As Melle & I were leaving the parade in Chinatown yesterday, we happened upon Homeboy Industries and the Homegirl Cafe. I learned about this company a long time ago, I think, when I was still living in the bay area.
Homeboy Industries was established to help at-risk youth and former gang members. I remember, watching that segment and thinking that it was great idea. It started in 1992 by Father Gregory J. Boyle to help individuals gain skills they would need to secure employment. It is a place where individuals can get a second chance. You can read about the history on the webpage. But here is a paragraph of what they are all about:
"In providing employment services, Homeboy targets and focuses on that
segment of the community that finds it most difficult to secure
employment on their own -- former gang members, parolees, and at-risk
youth. Although the headquarters is based in East Los Angeles, there is no organization in Los Angeles that serves a greater number of gang involved men and women. Our programs offer a much-needed intervention to those who deserve a second chance at life, and are “a whole lot more than the worst thing they’ve ever done.”
So, maybe, if you are down on Alameda in Downtown L.A. you can stop by, order a coffee & have some pastry & know that it is going to a good cause. It is nice to see that they are doing well & that the company continues to make a difference.
Aside from remember Homeboy Industries and wanting to write about them, I have been fiddling around with that Flip Video. My second project is in the works - there will be robots - that's all I'm saying. So, I will let you know how it turns out. I have had a lot of fun with it so far. I still need to edit the trip to the parade.
Also, looking forward to hitting the Counter in Santa Monica later and meeting up with my favorite people for dinner.
And looking into getting Skype and getting rid of my ATT line. I don't even use that frigging phone. why do I have it? I can have cable tv & cable access for around the same price. Right. What am I waiting for? Also, very behind on LOST and really missing Heroes.
Happy Sunday everybody!
Andres will be spinning some amazing tunes tonight at Little Cave in Highland Park. You should check him out if you are in L.A.
I think he is starting around 9 or 10 pm tonight.
If you are not interested in going to Little Cave for drinks and music, you can also hit the Big Foot Lodge for Bingo Night!
If these are too mellow for you, you can check out these spots and tell me about them.
Hope everyone is having a happy Sunday.

You know, waking up to soul music is the best thing ever. You start feeling the beats and you can't help but want to get up and dance. Soul music while fixing the bed or washing some dishes is pretty amazing.
Last night, Dre and I talked about which decade had the best music. His friend, Carlos, said the 60s. I say the 70s. Dre says the 70s as well. I love 60s music but some thing about the 70s just freed people to experiment with so many different sounds. It was a mash-up and then some - punk, funk, psychedelic, rock, everything was changing...though honestly, if I could go back in time, I would still choose 1967. thoughts?? Just curious...
