I have not done what I did this weekend in months..maybe even years. It was Headphonerecord's birthday week, which I totally screwed up and wished her a happy birthday at the beginning of the week instead of the day but I think it's ok because I drove up to hang out with her and Felicious.
It was one of the best weekends ever! I miss just hanging out with people. I never do that enough in L.A. Just hanging out on a busy street or hanging out at the park or even hanging out at a show. I got all of that in because Headphonerecord is Queen of Hangout Time. She is amazing and wonderful!
I ended up seeing so many people, whether it was running to them (like Marci and Deth(so good to see them!!!) or just hanging out with them because we were all together to celebrate Headphonerecord. I saw lots of faces I haven't seen in months even years and even met some new ones.
It was a whirlwind tour! Drove up at midnight, hung out for 2 days and then drove down at 11ish. I made it back to L.A. in 5 hours I think. It might have been less. I was driving like a mad woman listening to all the mix cds friends have made me over the years. It was awesome! My friends musical tastes rock!
I ended up eating a lot of delicious food, going to a show (the Magic Bullets at BOTH were super fun! They made me happy) and just spending Q.T. with amazing friends! hurray! I must not let too much time go by before doing this again.
Happy Birthday to Miss Headphonephone. Thanks to Felicious. Thanks to all the lovely faces and people i hugged and talked to and met! I miss S.F. and they always make it wonderful.
Look at that face...could you be a mean auntie to that cute little face? No? hey! Don't worry because I did it for you!!!! MUAHHHHHAHAHAHAAHAAAA *choke*
Because i have nothing too exciting to talk about I thought I'd share my recent "I'm a Mean Auntie" story...
So, I went home to San Diego on Saturday because it was one of my nephew's first communion. I stayed the day and hung out with my mom and then spent some time with this little guy and my sister. Before going to my sister's house, my mom and I decided to walk around the mall. That's just what we do now. I drive to the mall, we walk around, she hits the JCPenny for the sales and then we figure out what to do next.
My sister called me and wanted some Chicken Joy from Jollibee. You know if a mall has a Jollibee in it, a whole lot of Filipinos go to that mall! Anyway, so I bought a meal and took it over. The meal includes three peach mango pies. Have you had them? They are kind of like fried McDonald's apple pie and are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO delicious! The little guy above ended up eat 2 of the 3 pies. Now, imagine what kind of sugar rush that kid was on for a good 30 minutes. So, he was rushing around, rolling on the floor, hitting my legs, then he did it...
He likes to climb...
He climbed up on the ottoman and was balancing on the edge...I flipped out..
GET DOWN!!!!!
he sat on his butt, looked at me, lips start shaking and the eyes started watering...
I was all "OPPS!!!"
Then I spent 10 minutes trying to get him to forgive me. There were a lot of "Nos" and not looking at me..then after 10 minutes he looked over and I made a funny face and he smiled ..a little smile...
That's when you know it's all over. Then I got a high five so I knew we were friends again.
Too bad it isn't that easy anymore.
Hurray! I am super proud of Headphonerecord!!! She has made these wonderful shirts and has set up an amazing store online. Check out her prints and her t-shirt. I have a beautiful prints from her hanging on my wall.
She's an amazing print maker...as well as mask maker. She's also an incredible person so please check out her goods. Yay!
Check out my friend, Michelle's, new zine. She's a really amazing painter and is a grad student at the California College of Arts in Oakland/SF. She's selling these for $8.50.
I am super excited for her.
My friend, Dave, is now on vox as ambookgeek. Hurray.
Andres is now a Voxer. Last night we set it up. I'm really excited.
I almost wrote his first Vox entry because we were trying to figure out what was going on since he was trying to post and the connection was bad. You should add him.
He will school you on music. He's got the most amazing music collection and he's a great percussionist. But I am biased. He's my friend!
We just got back from Disneyland (courtesy of Mister JT - who deserves many schmoopies and thanks by the way) I am exhausted and don't have a way to upload pictures since my hard-drive died a month ago.
As we were driving there, the car was pretty much non-stop laughter, at which point I say, "You guys are really funny" and Jason says, "Going to Disneyland is really fun." We just have those moments where we are thinking similar thoughts and then we say them at the same time. I told him, I just wouldn't talk for the rest of the day because he's a mind reader.
It was really incredibly fun, We rode 11 or 12 rides and I got to do stuff that I had not done before.
The whole trip was filled with highlights but, since I am going to choose right now...the best was writing the Soaring over California ride. The entrance is like entering an Aerospace Museum that focuses on planes. That part was interesting but also emotional. They had pictures of important aviators with captions describing the persons contribution to flight along with a soundtrack. The soundtrack was really a bit too much for me. They play that track in almost every military movie - Jason gave all the reenactments - montage playing and cutting to a veteran saluting in a cemetery ; men storming the beach in whatever country ; etc. I was reading one and the music in the background, the black & white enlarged photograph and the words just about made me break down. I had to stop reading. It really was too much.
However, once we got on the ride, it was the most amazing experience. You are suspended and the screen seems to surround you. You begin soaring over all these different parts of California - vineyards in San Francisco, Napa Valley, Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Malibu, San Diego, Los Angeles - all the while going over familiar spots. For example, in San Diego, you go over a carrier and see the downtown skyline and for Los Angeles, you go over the 10/101 interchange in the evening with the familiar unending line of red brake lights. I walked out with a perma-grin. It made me so happy to be in California. I know I am lucky and I try to not take it for granted but sometimes, its moments like these that remind you that this is one of the most beautiful States in the nation. We have it all bustling cities and gorgeous open spaces. I tell everyone I know that I know I am spoiled living here. It really does have it all.
Have you ever had one of those days where you things just made you laugh and/or smile all day long? Like seeing a funny picture, overhearing an amusing part of a conversation, or just remembering something fun? Today was one of those days.
I was a little sad that my students did not do as well on my test as I thought they would but I am learning to make my heart into stone. (I'll write about that one my other blog.)
But all day I was just so happy it was Friday. Then I even had time to read some of my friends blogs. These are the ones that stood out and pretty much made my day even better:
1) Bamboo's blog to Gwen Stefani, Fergie and Toni Braxton titled - "Songs
That Make Me Wish I Deaf" - read it. It's hilarious!
2) This amazing review of Billy Bragg's collection by highwayfive. I love his music reviews blog. Always a good read. I think I'm about to listen to some Billy Bragg right now. He has a great opener to for this piece:
"The first time I heard Billy Bragg sing was on breakfast TV. He ripped
through a rousing version of It's Say Here and I dropped my school bag
in shock: I had never witnessed anything like it. Punk rock folk music
if you please."
3) The Unshelved Strip for today. Hilarious. - can you tell that I am so easily amused?
4) Resolutions and such from the ladies - Carolline and Melle.
5) So looking forward to getting a drink with the much missed, Miss G. I have not seen this woman in forever!
6) Planning my NYC/SF spring break tour!!! (WHOOO!!!!! - j/k)
7) also my new Last FM window..its beautiful and provides lovely Bios on the artists you are plays as well as nice links and it just looks beautiful!
