Currently, I am feeling a little out of wack today. I woke up at 10:50 am!! I normally (even if I have been out dancing and what not) wake up at 8:00 am. I am sure this happens to everybody but now, I just feel confused and out of it. What the hell? I have to get out of my house by noon to get to work on time too. I had all these big plans for the morning too. Like cleaning, sweeping up the front door area, washing dishes, making breakfast...but no! Instead, I was rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off because I just was too horrified that I woke up so late. So, now I'm at work and in a semi-grouchy mood.
I also found out as I walked in, that we were going to take pictures by the Christmas tree. What the hell? I swear, it's not like we are all a happy dysfunctional work crew. We're not. Half of us don't even speak to the other half. So now we have to make happy in front of the Christmas tree because it's the holidays? Not a fan of the fakery!
Anyway, I shouldn't be so crabby but this is what happens when you have to down a Mickey D's lunch and iced coffee to jump start the afternoon!
At least last night was fun. Felicious is in town and so we went to our favorite place, The Vermont. MisterJT put it perfectly that Kurtis could be considered a very good friend. I agree. I went up to the bar to say good night and Kurtis asked about school and all sorts of stuff and then gave me a hard time for not stopping by when I came in. Sorry! I had just been stuck in an hour of traffic coming from LAX! Forgive me :) Luckily they also have music again on Saturday nights too:) so dancing was on the menu for us at the end of the night. Only problem is that he did not have Beyonce Fierce's "Single Ladies." I think I should make a glove just for that song!
Friday night, I had the holiday work party. It's nice that we actually had one since most places have cancelled their parties. I went with Tall Guy and we unknowingly matched outfits. The theme was green. That's what happens when you are BFFs with someone. The party was fun. This year the dj was much much better. Also, the librarians took over the dance floor. That was amazing :) Then next thing I knew, the clock struck the magic hour and I had to leave. I didn't even get to eat anything. We had to pick up Miss F so we could check out the crazy holiday lights in Winnetka. Yeah! We drove out there for that!
We saw 2 streets - Candy Cane Lane and Candle Light Lane. It was amazing! Those people go all out!
Anyway, I guess, I better take a break now and pass out in the back! Have a good one folks!
This past Saturday, Melle, Ted & I decided to participate in the 3rd Annual Great Los Angeles Walk - which went along Santa Monica Blvd. We started downtown, walked up Cesar Chavez and then were supposed to just stick to Santa Monica Blvd. I posted pictures here but I also had my lomo 8 lens so those will be processed when I finish with the roll.
It was nice, we learned quite a bit about those bikes and we are going to start a Derringer gang :). If you are on 3rd, you should definitely stop by and check them out.
Wow. The air just got 50% more sooty and dark in the 3 hours I was out before heading to work. My lungs hurt. My coworker just commented "Can you imagine the respiratory problems in winter?" I said, "Can you imagine the problems we'll have way after this current firestorm?!?" I'm not worry about the couple months from now...I'm worried about the problems I'll have in 5 years...lung cancer anyone?
Anyway, I was going to bust these blue masks out for my trip to China since that's what the coolest friends/coworkers at my main place of employment gave them to me for...but looking at the air today..I think I might have to open it up for this week.
Aside from the bad air, I scored big time with this amazing care package for my trip to China in the spring. My friends/coworkers are the best! They even let me be the princess of the library for 3 minutes :) HA! It was quite unexpected and they even bought that awesome steel passport wallet from ThinkGeek. I'm paranoid. As I was researching renewing my passport I read that the issue electronic passports now so they all have that RFID chip in them. I don't know about you but I'm not comfortable with radio waves or what have you just being emitted from some machine to "read" all my information. No thanks. Yes, I do a lot of things online and if people want my information they can get it but you know, I'd rather feel like I'm doing something to prevent identity theft.
Speaking of passports, I had to personally turn in my passport to a passport agency yesterday. I was waiting for some paper work from my mom and I spent the most time in the post office than I can ever remember. 1 hour early in the morning to pick up the envelope my mom sent certified. The 2 hours in line at another post office which is also a passport agency.
Seriously, what is up with some postal workers attitudes? I was in line with a really nice older woman and the postal lady came out and looked at her envelope and goes, "Are you sure there are 3 digits in that address number? I don't remember seeing any Maryland address with 3 digits?" This is for the house not the zip code. WTF? All I could think was, "Out of the gagillions addresses in Maryland how the hell do you know that they don't have house numbers with 3 digits?" I'm pretty sure out of the gagillions packages and letters sent daily around the US you don't know that shit. Sorry but I don't think so. That's like me memorizing the Dewey Decimal number for every book ever written on molecular biology. Yeah, no. And of course, she being an older lady started having doubts about what she wrote. She was all freaked out that she had to go home to check her address book. I let her use my phone to call her husband because she did not have a cell phone and there were no payphones nearby. The other lady beside her and myself tried to assure her that she copied the information correctly and to not doubt it. Seriously, she did not pull that b.s. on any other person in line. Why would you even do that?
Luckily after 2 hours in line, I had the correct paper work! YAY! I was really nervous about that.
Also had thanksgiving dinner at the Kims. Again. It was delicious! Always a fun time at the Kims and Mickey's house. I was going to take pictures but I was distracted by eating! Just imagine a lovely Thanksgiving spread with really fun people. It's like you were there!
Have a great day folks!
Please please please please please let this be the outcome I hope for. I am so nervous...I do not think I will be relaxed very much in the next 6 days...6 days for the US to change...6 days for a new better smarter more in touch president. 6 days!
There are great links on the Huffington Post tonight too about the speech.
Have you done Great Walk LA? This is the first year I will be participating. The route is from downtown to the ocean. I'm so excited! I've actually walked from Korea Town to the La Brea Tar Pits and that's a pretty nice walk. Ok, I did it on accident because my sense of distance on maps is pretty non-existent but in the end it was worth it...really! Hopefully you can join because I think it would be so fun :)
I have always wanted to go down the Colorado River so now I get to do a canoe trip with the school. It is always nice how things like this work out. There are no rapids where we are headed but a leisurely canoe trip is not so bad. I am looking forward to doing something new! I have gone on 3 rapids trips and one of those trips was a harrowing experience (the guide literally freaked out, my friend fell in as we hit some rapids (4-5), all I could see was his face drifting further and further away even as I tried to grab him -granted he is 6+ ft. and 250 lbs & I'm little)) so yes, no rapids and a canoe will be a perfect reintroduction to a river trip.
Hopefully, it will be warm out there because right now, I'm freezing!
Anyway, have a great week Neighbors!
I thought they were both strong in the forum. However, I did think that McCain was just repeating what Obama was saying. I will have to rewatch it...though, I might poke out my eyeballs if I have to hear McCain call the crowd "my friends." Obviously, I would not be your friend because your wife wouldn't even want to shake my hand or probably look at me if I was in that crowd.
See, I can see myself have a conversation with Barack and Michelle Obama. They would not turn away or stand far away like I had cooties.
Anyway, they have not really said anything new but are pretty much validating what I believe and know from what I've read and discussed. You might disagree and that's ok. My brother disagrees with me...
I cannot believe it's a month away! I am pretty disappointed in McCain's "disdain"...seriously, be a little professional...you are not entitled to the job just because you are old.
Did anyone else read about that Burke guy in Alaska who aired the organizers phone numbrs on the air? What a jerk! My friend sent me this email and I wanted to post it and the pictures. The photographs are pretty amazing. We only have weeks left and this is the biggest election since 2000. Well, at least for me. I have hope. I have hope. Obama will win. I have to believe that. Get out and vote and rally and lets take back this government.
Let's not forget who the original proponent for change in this election is Obama and Biden!
Below is the email and some photographs. I will post them on flickr because there are a lot!
"[The] Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was
to be held outside on the lawn in front of the Loussac Library in midtown
Anchorage . Home made signs were encouraged, and the idea was to make a
statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all Alaska women, or men.
I had no idea what to expect..
The rally was organized by a small group of women, talking over coffee.
It made me wonder what other things have started with small groups of
women talking over coffee. It's probably an impressive list. These
women hatched the plan, printed up flyers, posted them around town, and sent
notices to local media outlets. One of those media outlets was KBYR
radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time uber-conservative Anchorage talk
show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only announced the rally, but
called the people who planned to attend the rally "a bunch of socialist
baby-killing maggots," and read the home phone numbers of the organizers
aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they thought.
The women, of course, received some nasty, harassing and
threatening messages.
I felt a bit apprehensive. I'd been disappointed before by the turnout at other rallies. Basically, in Anchorage , if you can get 25 people to show up at an event, it's a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100 people there that aren't sent by Eddie Burke, we'll be doing good. A real statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15 demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing "socialist baby-killing maggot" haters.
It's a good thing I wasn't tailgating when I saw the crowd in front of the library or I would have ended up in somebody's trunk. When I got there, about 20 minutes early, the line of sign wavers stretched the full length of the library grounds, along the edge of the road, 6 or 7 people deep! I could hardly find a place to park. I nabbed one of the last spots in the library lot, and as I got out of the car and started walking, people seemed to join in from every direction, carrying signs.
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in Anchorage . The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators). This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn't honk looked wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This just doesn't happen here.
Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up. He tried to talk to the media, and was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so loud he couldn't be heard. Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved their signs high.
So, if you've been doing the math... Yes. The Alaska Women Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin's rally that got all the national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery. Feel free to spread the pictures around to anyone who needs to know that Sarah Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans. The citizens of Alaska , who know her best, have things to say.
A bunch of pictures of that rally:"
Yes, it will take time...probably a long time to change things but it will happen.
