Futureheads Start Their Own Label for New Album

Label drama: it's a piece of crap. 'Tis a truth the Futureheads know a bit too well. So for their third album, This Is Not the World, the band have forged their own path and created their own label, Nul Records.

This Is Not the World is due in the UK in late May (date still TBC), with individual deals with indie labels in the rest of the world to be hammered out later.

One of the many stories I put in a page-long email was the story of my second trip to Canada. I was traveling with my best friend’s family to the Seattle area and we decided to pop into Canada for a bit. Now, it’s two white kids (me and my friend Andrew) and a car of about five Filipinos (my friend Joe and his family). Neither Andrew or I brought passports, so the Canadian boarder patrol had a quick conference before coming back to ask us one very important question: “You’re here of your own free will, right?”

A President Like My Father

OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama.

My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined. All my life, people have told me that my father changed their lives, that they got involved in public service or politics because he asked them to. And the generation he inspired has passed that spirit on to its children. I meet young people who were born long after John F. Kennedy was president, yet who ask me how to live out his ideals.

Long-Term Pact with Iraq Raises Questions

NPR.org, January 24, 2008 · President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki issued a joint letter in November. On the surface, the "Declaration of Principles" appears as a mutual "expression of friendship," as it has been characterized by administration officials.

But a closer look reveals a blueprint for how the two administrations plan to set the foundation for the future of America's involvement in Iraq.

When administration officials describe that vision, the language they use is vague. The president recently spoke of an "enduring relationship." Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice talks about "a relationship with Iraq for the long term." Defense Secretary Robert Gates outlined "a mutually agreed arrangement whereby we have a long and enduring presence."
