Lavender Diamond @ Amoeba, LA
Mister JT suggested we check out Lavender Diamond & Dntel at Amoeba yesterday and I will say that Lavender Diamond is a treat. I know, they have played at Amoeba before but I just nevr went to check them out. Becky Stark, the lead singer, reminds me of a lot the girls who end up going to Santa Cruz and are home-schooled or just a little free spirit. Though, I tend to not like too much talking when I go to show - I do not mind short bantering like Rob Crow does - Becky Stark is a talker. She is also completely random in a very sweet, smart, might have smoked a bowl before hitting the stage kind of way. She speaks in a very stream of consciousness sort of way. Sometimes, that can be very very frightening, but lucky for her, she's a singer of a pretty cool indie pop sounding band.
She has a really wonderful voice. (Mister JT posted on of their songs and the link is above.) She reminds me of the lead singer from the Sundays, Harriet Wheeler, but also a bit like Natalie Merchant when she was in 10,000 Maniacs. If you get a chance to see them, you will be in for a interesting set where Becky Stark will tell you funny stories from the tour, share weird toys, talks about her plans for a better planet, her idea of terracide, and just random things that you probably think about and just don't voice out loud. She was great and so is the music.
Actually, I just thought I should post their video so now you can see what I am talking about:
