I have not done what I did this weekend in months..maybe even years. It was Headphonerecord's birthday week, which I totally screwed up and wished her a happy birthday at the beginning of the week instead of the day but I think it's ok because I drove up to hang out with her and Felicious.

It was one of the best weekends ever! I miss just hanging out with people. I never do that enough in L.A. Just hanging out on a busy street or hanging out at the park or even hanging out at a show. I got all of that in because Headphonerecord is Queen of Hangout Time. She is amazing and wonderful!

I ended up seeing so many people, whether it was running to them (like Marci and Deth(so good to see them!!!) or just hanging out with them because we were all together to celebrate Headphonerecord. I saw lots of faces I haven't seen in months even years and even met some new ones.

It was a whirlwind tour! Drove up at midnight, hung out for 2 days and then drove down at 11ish. I made it back to L.A. in 5 hours I think. It might have been less. I was driving like a mad woman listening to all the mix cds friends have made me over the years. It was awesome! My friends musical tastes rock!

I ended up eating a lot of delicious food, going to a show (the Magic Bullets at BOTH were super fun! They made me happy) and just spending Q.T. with amazing friends! hurray! I must not let too much time go by before doing this again.

Happy Birthday to Miss Headphonephone. Thanks to Felicious. Thanks to all the lovely faces and people i hugged and talked to and met! I miss S.F. and they always make it wonderful.

Thanks for the music Michael Jackson Rest In Peace.

Someone posted pictures of their lunch from Miss Peaches. I don't know why I haven't been there sooner. It was on my list of fried chicken places to try...so I think I will go there for dinner tonight

Pissedatcvs

I have something to complain about! So, you know how CVS/pharmacy has those ads about how you can get $50 if you transfer your prescription? Yes. So, I transferred by prescription but I did it online. There is where on that site that states you need to wait for the coupons before picking up your prescription so I picked up my prescription and then 2 weeks later, I got the coupons.

I went in today to pick up my prescription and they were all, "oh you can't use these."

I was like, "but it does not state anywhere online that I need to wait for the coupons to come before I can pick up my prescription."

Pharmacist: "Well, you can talk to the manager tomorrow."

Me: "I don't want to come here tomorrow." Like I have nothing better to do than keep going to CVS? yeah, no.

Pharmacist: "Well, let me ask so-and-so"

So-and-so: "Yes, you can't you these a month later."

I'm like "But these did not come until a week after my prescription was ready for pick up. and it doesn't state anywhere that I had to wait for these to come before using them." Why should I wait around for the coupon when I need to pick up my prescriptions. Honestly, I needed them when I needed them...It's not like you can skip days or anything, let alone a week.

Then the Pharmacist goes "well, just get a new prescription."

WTF? Like I'm going to go pay however much to go to the Doctor to get a prescription I don't need. I was all, "Excuse me. That doesn't even make sense. I'm not going to go to the doctor just to get a prescription for no reason."

"But then you can use these."

WTF?!? Are you kidding me? Yeah, go to the doctor and pay $100 for a $50 gift certificate. No thanks brainiac!

I was so irritated. So, now I'm going to transfer my prescriptions to Target. I like Target more anyway.

But what a flipping scam. Screw you CVS!

Good morning! So, let's see yesterday's list:

decoupage my bathroom cabinet

wrap up my nephews birthday presents

make mix cd cover (thank goodness I have photoshop on my work computer that I can use)

clean the kitchen
find recipes for the figs I bought at the farmer's market

fig, proscuitto and brie pizza

I made this delicious pizza with figs, prosciutto and brie. My friend, tiffanybbrown, mentioned gorgonzola and making it a "white" pizza so I will have to try that one soon before figs go out of season. I have to say, it was delicious. I saw the recipe online somewhere after sifting through pages and pages of fig recipes. There were not that many savory dishes except for some appetizers.

I was really surprised by how delicious it turned out. Yum!

Also, I went to this deli down the street called Monte Carlo/Pinnochio's. It's an Italian deli that specializes in imported products. I have tried their restaurant and it is good but I've never bought anything in the store part. The deli guy was super helpful. Poor guy though I could not hear a word he was saying. He was really soft spoken and the place was busting. I even did that thing where you cup your ear so you can hear the person better. Yeah! I'm OLD! OLD! After I did it, I thought, "Oh gawd. Did I just do that? Dang it!" It was sad...but what can you do? I went to a lot of shows, I live under a flight path, things are loud! *shakes cane* LOL!

read some of the Roald Dahl Treasury I just checked out. Reading it again I am struck by how creepy his stories are - Enormous Crocodile trying to eat children with cheap trips. Yeah...CREEPY! But I love it! They also are great for reading out loud!

Strawberry Donut

I want to write a bit about the road trip. It was fun and I definitely need to take the time to drive up the entire length of it and also give myself time to go on side trips and such. Or maybe do a section at a time.

Some of the highlights:

eating this amazing strawberry donut from Donut Man in Glendora, CA. It looks really sweet but it wasn't at all. The coffee is ok. It's no Dunkin Donuts coffee but you don't go there for the coffee. Melle had a crazy raspberry filled on and when they say filled..well, that thing is STUFFED! with raspberry filling.
stopped in Seligman and the people watching is excellent. A lot of tour buses stop there and people from all over the world are there. French, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, German, Mexico, etc. You name it! It was incredible. Also, stopping in Angel and Vilma's shop was great and being in Angel Delgadillo's barber shop was just awesome. I don't know if you watch GMA but they stopped there and talked to Angel. I cannot emphasize enough that you need to stop by that place. It's amazing!
Driving!!! The whole point is driving and seeing things you will never see on Highway 40. You can get to these places off of the 40 but nothing compares to driving through Oatman, Arizona and taking the backroad through the mountain. It's breathtaking and incredible. Seeing the changing scenery from the flat, shrub and cactus covered desert to the pine forests of Arizona to the Grand Canyon - - well, there really are not words to describe it. You just have to do it.
The People - the proprietors of the shops along Route 66, for the most part, are incredibly nice. One of the places we checked out was an antique shop in Williams, Arizona. Troy, the owner, was hilarious. He had an old camera from 1915 or so and couldn't get it open. Not sure how long he had the camera. I ended up figuring it out. It was SO cool!
It was an old accordion style camera in excellent condition. That's Troy! He called himself "Vanna Black" for that picture :) LOL! But oh, it was so fun figuring out how that thing worked. Now I wish I had bought it just because! Might have to drive to Williams again :)

Things I wish I hadn't seen

in Daggett, California there was an abandoned gas station and inside it was filled with racist graffitti. Awful! I'm not even writing what I saw but after I read some of it, I freaked out! bad bad vibes!
On a funnier note, 2 mules going at it. Yup! 2 Mules! Not the two below but..yeah...that was not cool! ewww...forever burned into my memory. Seriously BURNED!!!

toured the Grand Canyon Caverns - which is not that close to the Grand Canyon but I guess has 3 week old Grand Canyon air filtering in from a cavern inside it. People have been married in the caverns and it is an archivists dream storage room. There was a old mummified bobcat and some fossilized rock. It's also a bomb shelter so if you are there when we are attacked by North Korea..well, you might be lucky!
and visited Meteor Crater! Who knew a giant hole in the Earth created by a space rock could be so fascinating?!? Definitely worth visiting when you are hanging out in Flagstaff, AZ.
and the Grand Canyon! Need I say anything except..WOW!!!

and now I'm back and at work and getting to work on some new lists.

Yesterday, ended up crafting a bit. Thanks to Vozchica and the Handmade Brigade for OC's Blades and I got some crafting in. Why did I drive all the way to Laguna Niguel? I don't know! It's free! Plus I wanted to meet Jackie and we also met Melissa Loschy. Super nice and great teachers. Here are the members of HBOC.Check out their etsy pages. I think some of them will be at the Renegade Craft Fair on July 11 and 12 at the CA Market Center. Definitely need to hit that up in July :)

Saturday Showers...

ok, NOT at all. It's just drizzling but you know, in L.A. this equals a shower. Stay off the roads!!! Everyone will drive like they forgot how to drive and it will be awesome!

I ended up not being all that lazy yesterday despite the stupid migraine problem I had all day. I swear, now that I'm older I keep getting migraines. I've never had them and now, it's like clockwork. The weird things was that on TV on the LiveWell channel they had a special on migraines! How fitting and synchronous that was! So, I take vitamins, I exercise, but I think I might need drugs for it. DRUGS! I don't want to do it. But Jan did suggest something so I will have to see my doctor and talk to him about it. Though, he's not much for prescribing things.

But because I didn't get started until super late I ended up walking up at 5 am today. So, I went on a hike around the Griffith Observatory and Mt. Hollywood. That hike is only good in the early morning and the early evening because there is absolutely zero cover. I remember I did it once during the day and it was hell hot. I thought I was early getting there at about 5:45 am but those groups of Korean and Japanese ladies and men always beat me! Always! No matter where I go hike, here in the Valley or the West Side, there are always these way more energetic and super fit Korean and Japanese groups. They make me feel lazy! I swear, they pretty much smoke me as I struggle up the hill. They are laughing and talking and I'm all winded and tired. It's awesome! :) Super nice people and after awhile you end up seeing them every time you do the hike. But hello, they must get there at 4:30 or 5 in the morning!!! I'm amazed and then today, I noticed group doing the same trek up the hill for the 2nd time! I did it once and I was done. But now that I think about it..it might have been round 4 or something. CRAZY!!!

Then I went to the farmer's market. I think I'm going to go to the farmer's market and buy something "new" and figure out what to do with it. This time I bought some figs

Figs..what do I do with them?

I've never "cooked" with figs so that's my project for today.

Also finished my Mix CD inspired by the road trip. I'm listening to it today and Headphonerecord introduced me to this new-to-me group, "The Equals." I never heard of a slipper tree but this is what I saw on the road

Drove part of Route 66 with Melle Music. It was fun! I was going to write more about it but I'm lazy. Honestly, all I want to do today is sleep and watch TV. I mean, I can do that but I have to do stuff like laundry and chores. I posted some pictures on Flickr in my Getting My Kicks set.

There were some funky sights..I made up a band name "Beautiful Sadness." The worst name ever but it cracked us up for a good stretch of the drive. Every thing can be described as "Beautiful Sadness." Actually, let me see if there is a band with that name...ok, i joked that it would be a metal band...Let's see...here it is! Goth and Industrial!

Rainbow Canyon

Ended up detouring and hanging out at the Grand Canyon. Words really cannot describe it. Majestic. Breath-taking. It was raining while we were there so we saw this pretty wonderful rainbow in the canyon. Amazing!

I still need to do the drive. No one really heads up to Chicago, most of the people we saw were heading towards LA.

I will write more later but here's a little preview. Time to take a nap :)

Gaviota off the 101

I'm super excited! I'm going to a road trip tomorrow! Whoo-hoooo! I became inspired after watching GMA's weekend edition where Kate Snow, Bill Weir, Ron Claiborne, and Kate Snow's sister all drive down the Mother Road, Route 66. Now, we won't be driving down in a cool classic convertible but we will be in a PT Cruiser Tour edition!!! It has a sun roof! whoo-hooo!

I realize I'm probably a romantic because I'm bring some 1960s music with me, that surf rock comp, some soul, some Kinks and who knows what Melle is bringing. I will have to make mixes when I get home tonight. If you have any good roadtrip soundtracks or suggestions definitely post them. I like sing-a-long songs myself. I also think, in honor of watching "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" last night, I should get that soundtrack.

Let's see what do I need to do:

finish and send off the BASV notes. We had our meeting yesterday, which ended up not being mandatory. Why do they say it's mandatory when it isn't? I don't like that. But I'm not note taker and I planned on being there anyway, but if it isn't mandatory..don't say that it is. Say it's "strongly recommended" that you attend. I really am bothered by that cause basically you're lying.
